I am slowly learning how to use my Cricut Explore Air 2...very slowly.<br />
<br />
Luckily for me, there are a lot of crafters posting tutorials, tips and tricks and (best of all!) free SVG files for Cricut. I was immediately enchanted by <a href="https://www.abbikirstencollections.com/2016/08/baby-fox-svg-cut-file-freebie-friday.html" target="_blank">this adorable fox design</a> and was inspired to put it to use on at least two cards. The one above is the card I made for my eighth aunt's baby shower. I just modified the size make the fox cub. I also put together an engagement card for a distant cousin.<br />

I love using paint chips for the variety of colours that they offer and the fact they come in small swatches so I am not wasting a large sheet each time.<br />
<br />
Hopefully, when I am more comfortable using the design program, I can start designing my own images to share!<br />

There's something beautifully serene about cherry blossoms. I do not even remember when and where I got this particular paper punch but this design idea has been percolating in my brain for the longest time. It was great for using up some of my paint chip scraps but it is a very labour intensive card. Every tiny flower has to be individually punched out and then glued to the card base. My intention is for these to be 'Thinking of You" cards and I am quite pleased with how they turned out. However, I am undecided as to whether this design looks better with or without the gold accents.<br />
<br />
This is the process it takes to make this card: (I really enjoyed taking these in-progress shots!)<br />

I am starting to get back into the crafting frame of mind. [Thanks to lots of encouragement from my husband! I think he's decided that this is the most likely way that my mountains of craft supplies will start decreasing....by being used. ;) ] Stay tuned for a few more of my projects in the coming weeks! </div>

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Weddings seem to come in waves. Some years, I do not get invited to a single one while in others, they seem to occur every month! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
One thing my craft-loving self enjoys about weddings is the opportunity to play with different card designs. Yes, the occasion is the same but every couple is unique and I try to make the cards that I give reflect that. Unfortunately, I did not have the forethought to take pictures of every card I made last year but here is at least a selection:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
A new year comes with new crafting aspirations!<br />
<br />
I have big plans for this blog this year including a resolution to post at least once a week. (Given my poor posting record these last few years, it is an ambitious but, I still believe, achievable goal.)<br />
<br />
I have new interests to explore and new tools to play with. To start, I have been flirting with brush calligraphy for the last month with the aim of having a classy "Happy New Year" handlettered for this post. That was clearly abandoned for a more attainable "2019".<br />

After seeing post after post on Pinterest of beautifully crafted bullet journal layouts, I was finally seduced. If you don't know what a bullet journal is, then just type the term into Google and within seconds you will see thousands of meticulously arranged Instagram shots of perfectly organized notebooks. At its most basic, a bullet journal is simply a contain-everything notebook where you draw out your own agenda pages and scribble down notes. However, the DIY community has turned it into a fancy work of art. I'm not convinced that I will be all that more productive with this system. Sketching out layouts is time-consuming. I know that I could just ignore making it look pretty but considering that is the main reason why I wanted to start one...I can't really do that, can I? We shall see how long this lasts. š</div>

<br />
It was a warm Sunday afternoon when my friends and I decided to do some impromptu baking. Our goal: to use up Amy's expired jar of half-empty Nutella. After vetoing various recipes from google for requiring ingredients we didn't have/being too complicated/being questionable (I'm looking at you, Allison. š), we finally decided to just make some basic chocolate cake and swirl in some Nutella.<br />
<br />
Okay, the swirling in part was less than successful (it tends to glob more than swirl). However, we did get the chance to use the mini-bunt cake pan that my sister and I had given Amy a few years ago for Christmas.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
We just filled in the middle with Nutella and I was quite proud of somewhat managing a swirl! (Check out the beauty of that picture up top!)<br />
<br />
We also tried stuffed cupcakes and those didn't quite turn out...<br />

Picked up a free sticker from the Carp Fair a few weeks back and finally decided to colour it in. I like the boldness of Sharpie colours. It was a relaxing activity and I think I'm starting to understand the appeal of adult colouring books. </div>

Saturday mornings are now my favorite time of the week. Most of the time, I sleep in or spend it lounging around but every once in a while, I end up actually doing something productive. This morning, I decided to whip up a fancier breakfast than usual with my cousins Henrika and Brianna. So behold our French Toast creations!</div>

Happy New Year!<br />
<br />
I love starting a new planner - I get to indulge in these lovely delusions that somehow, I will be more organized and productive from here on out. This year I'm using a Brownline Daily planner since, sadly, I don't have the time any more to design, print and assemble my own from scratch. However, you can see that I'm trying to make up for the lack in brightly coloured tabs, stickies and pens. I also splurged on Black Friday and bought myself a pack of craft tape and have been extensively decorating my monthly spreads.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">I <i>finally</i> understand why crafters like this stuff so much!</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div>
Will this result in a more productive year? I guess we'll just have to wait and see...</div>

<span style="font-family: "gotham" , "helvetica" , "arial" , sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: x-small;">One-off paint nights and paint classes seem to be pretty popular these days. I haven't really been that interested though since I have all the supplies at home to paint if I wanted to; I didn't really see much point in going out and paying $30 to do something I can already do at home. However, while on an elective in Kingston, I decided to venture out to a class mainly for the chance to socialize with some of my work colleagues. We had an hour and a half to illustrate a word. Their sample was a cheery 'hello' surrounded by flowers. I decided to try something a little different and so attempted a more conceptual piece. It's bleaker but was aiming for something with more of an emotional impact. I have to admit that I am not crazy about how it turned out...but I don't regret giving it a shot. After all, experimentation is what art is all about. The one advantage of these classes that I can see is that for people like me, it motivates you to actually DO art instead of always putting it off.</span></span><br />

<span style="font-family: gotham, helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px;">The sour cherry crop this year was not as plentiful as in previous years but I still had enough to make a few batches of cherry filling. With a more limited cherry supply, I decided to be ambitious and try my hand at making Black Forest cupcakes. I've never made stuffed cupcakes before so I wasn't sure if the filling was just going to sink to the bottom and end up being soggy. I was pleasantly surprised to see that my technique of layering cake batter, then filling and then batter again actually worked. I whipped up some cream and shaved a Lindor chocolate on top for decoration and then voila! Looked good and tasted good too! The only thing I think I'll change is that next time, I will add a bit more rum but otherwise, I count this experiment as a success. :)</span><br />

I have noticed lately that all my posts currently involve
some form of food. My papers and punches are collecting dust as Iām spending
more of my time in the kitchen with friends. Food is something that brings
people together and I find it interesting that during a recent conversation
about my friendsā dream homes, every one of them wanted a large kitchen island
as a hub for entertaining. <o:p></o:p></div>

This rather interesting creation should have been posted a
long time ago. My friend Caseyās birthday is on Valentineās day and he once
jokingly told us that in the past, it was difficult to find friends to
celebrate with him because so often, they are out with their significant
others. Well, our church fellowship group was planning on meeting up that
weekend to watch sports anyway so Amy, Emily, Tim and I decided to bake a cake
to celebrate him gaining another year on his dish. ;) <o:p></o:p></div>

This carrot cake recipe has been described as āthe best
carrot cake I have ever hadā by more than one person. It was also an excellent
way to put more vegetables in the diets of the guys of our group. <o:p></o:p></div>

Since the gathering was in the evening, our plan was to bake
the cake in the afternoon and bring it out as a surprise. Unfortunately, we
were off to a slow start and so had barely managed to finish the baking portion
before Casey arrived. The assembly and decorating of the cake is a comedic
story involving a cramped laundry room, a mess of icing and multiple attempts
at breaking away from the group without being noticed. Oh the things we do for our friendsā¦ <span style="font-family: Wingdings; mso-ascii-font-family: Calibri; mso-ascii-theme-font: minor-latin; mso-char-type: symbol; mso-hansi-font-family: Calibri; mso-hansi-theme-font: minor-latin; mso-symbol-font-family: Wingdings;">J</span> <o:p></o:p></div>

months of labouring over application forms and sweating at interviews, itās the
